Scope of Program:
Visual Communication Design students at the University of Dayton may choose to specialize in either Graphic Design or Computer Imaging. All students complete foundation courses in 2D and 3D design, color and drawing. Graphic Design students focus on typography, design methodology, web design, visual form, design history, painting, image making, book design, motion graphics, and interface design. Computer Imaging students concentrate on digital processes, typography, visual form, computer applications, design history, painting, computer-aided illustration, computer modeling and animation. All Visual Communication Design students complete a senior seminar, create a portfolio and write a senior paper.
Visual Arts students who choose the Illustration concentration complete foundation courses in drawing, painting, 2D and 3D design and design and color, then continue with coursework in sculpting, printmaking, art history, illustration and photography. All students complete a senior seminar, write a senior paper and create an illustration portfolio.
Art, merit and need-based scholarships are available. Visual Arts students must purchase an Apple MacBook Pro laptop computer. Students should expect to pay about $300 for their Foundation Kit (art supplies). Ohio residents are encouraged to apply for state-sponsored scholarships and grants.
