Scope of Program:
Video Art students complete foundation courses in art, including studio concepts, digital imaging, drawing, photography, painting, sculpture, printmaking and video art. They continue with coursework in digital photography, art history, time-based art, video installation, video production, new media and documentary, alternative digital image processing, experimental cinema and professional practices. All students complete a B. F. A. seminar and create a senior thesis and exhibition.
Design students who choose the Motion Design Concentration complete foundation courses in design fundamentals, drawing, color theory and digital foundations. They then focus on visual communication, sequential communication, typography, drawing for motion, art history, studio art, history of motion design, digital 2D and 3D representation, 2D animation, digital 3D animation, digital motion effects, motion design production and editing and professional practices. All students must pass semester reviews, complete a senior studio and create a portfolio and B. F. A. show. Visual Communication Design students complete foundation courses in design fundamentals, drawing, color theory and digital foundations, then focus on art history, typography, history of design, history of visual communication, illustration, systems communication, interactive publication, product and packaging, dynamic information design, visual narrative for design, professional practices and media techniques. All students must pass semester reviews, complete a B. F. A. seminar and create a portfolio and B. F. A. show.
A portfolio is required with the application to the B. F. A. program. Art and Design students will incur lab fees of $45 to $100 per course. Design students must purchase an Apple Macintosh laptop computer. Art, merit and need-based scholarships are available.
